"Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" message

I bought a new laptop about a month ago. It's a DELL Studio 1555. I bought it in the US but I live in China. I took it back to China with me yesterday. Today I tried to install my printer onto it. I bought the printer about 5 years ago. It's an HP LaserJet 1010. On my previous Dell, I had no problems with the printer (by the way, I don't have the original disk for my printer). But I am having a lot of problems now. It took awhile, but I was able to install the new printer (I had to go the HP website to find a driver). But whenever I print, the printer prints in the wrong paper size. You see, in China, we use A4 size paper not letter size paper. I changed those settings on Microsoft Word and all my documents are A4 size, but for some reason, the printer still prints like it's letter size paper. Under the printer's properties, it only says letter paper is available. I tried to go to the printing preferences, but every time I do, the same message pops up: Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working. It doesn't matter how I try, but I can't access the printing preferences, which I assume is where I need to change the paper size. Can anyone help me? I sometimes also get the message when I try to print anything. I really don't want to have to buy a new printer because my printer is very nice and reliable so I'd love to find a way to make my new computer and printer work together.
