Windows Live Hotmail: Can you use background images?

Danny

Using Windows Live Hotmail(the old web-based MSN Hotmail) I
occasionally receive emails where the forwarded portion contains a
stationery-like background image. I have tried from time to time to
send Hotmail messages created at the Hotmail website that contain an
image background....snowflakes for Christmas, hearts for Valentines,
etc etc.

I have read that Hotmail strips all background information except for
that included in the <TD> table data field. Supposedly background
images will show up, but I have yet to create an html/css/table based
email where I can see the background image behind the text. Does
anyone know how to write this code so that emails created in Hotmail
can have stationery-like background images?

Thanks

Danny

This newsgroup deals with Windows Live Mail (mail client), not Windows Live

Could you recommend a newsgroup that would be more appropriate? I'm
having a hard time finding a newsgroup that is strictly devoted to the
web-based Hotmail email service.

That's because there isn't one, despite countless requests over the years.
The closest you'll get is microsoft.public.msn.discussion.

That is just sad and how did you even find that post? How about going to microsoft.public.windows.live.helpcommunity_platform.feedback newsgroup?

It's amazing what you fall over when you're looking for something else.
What's saddest is that newsgroups - as a non-revenue customer service - seem
to be at the bottom of MSFT's priority list, on a sort of palliative care
only regime. As for the group you mention, it seems to be populated (like
its Custom Domains sibling) entirely by posters of the "plz help!!! my
webcam dont work? msn sucks!!!" variety.

To save you the effort of reposting to the correct newsgroup, you can not
modify the coding of a hotmail message to achieve the desired intent.
The only option available in the web interface is to modify the background
color.
To embed an image as a background, you must use a different email client.

Finally, even if one embeds a background(e.g using a jpg file), Hotmail may
still convert the background to an attached file.
- I.e. nothing gained.

using e-mail stationary in hot-mail

Danny if you find out how to do it please let me know. I use outlook at work with our mail server and create signatures and send e-mail with a simple "Notebook Theme" stationary. When I send a message to my hotmail account the stationary does not show up and My signature is double spaced.
Thanks for any help.
Bob
