I cannot open pictures that I have recently taken on my secure digital storage device. This is what it says when i try to open one of the various pictures i cant open:

Photo Gallery cant open this picture or video. This file format is not supported, or you do not have the latest updates to photo gallery.

What do I do?

JPG should open in Photo Gallery
Go to start,Default programs,
Go to Associate A File Type Or Protocol With A Program.
Scroll to .jpg and set it to Windows Photo Gallery.
Click Save

JPG and folder options are correct
I notice you put jpg in upper case is this the way it is, if so try changing them to lower case and see if it works. Hope that is the problem.
