WMP 11 Reset?

K

#1
I am having problems with my Windows Media Player 11 on Windows Vista Home
Premium. I can no longer play any form of sound file unless its directly from
a CD or a .wav file. I only get a single popping sound as I try to load any
WMA or MP3 file and it says "media changing" before it loads. But I can still
play WMV files with sound and picture. I thought that a solution to this
problem might be to reset the player, but there seems to be no way of doing
that without a clean reinstall of Vista. Is there any other possible solution?

What changed before this happened?
What sound card do you have?
What are the results of WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information menu
tool?

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

I tried to copy my Nickelback CD. All the Right Reasons, on to my computer
and play it back, but I was given an error message which I should have read,
but didn't and checked a box in another message box that said, "Do not show
this message again" and then the audio stopped working. I can still play
video files with sound on WMP 11 and I can still play the same WMA files on
Rhapsody or RealPlayer. I have Realtek High Definition Audio built into my
Asus M2N68-LA motherboard. The only other thing that I did before it stopped
working was install Vista's SP1 RC1 Refresh.
