X2: The Threat, Vista Home Premium

Hi folks

This is the first game I couldn't run. Any ideas how to make this work, it
was originally designed to work with 98SE, ME, and XP, as far as I'm aware.
TIA.

X2 The threat not installing on VIsta Home Edition

Hi, I have the same problem I think. The installation program starts ok and I accept the licence agreement. It then goes to the (Install destination folder) which is correct and accept. The installation starts for about 1 second then it says " the installation was interrupted before X2 - The Threat could be completely installed"

I did not cancel anything. I also tried with the compatibility settings (all), and also set to run as administrator with no luck.

My system specs can be found here:
http://www.xfire.com/profile/flem1977/.

Cheers in advance.

Hi Ian

Looking at the specs on your rig it covers all the appropriate bases. Have
you got a firewall, sometimes if you have a firewall active it interferes
with the installation, in fact it is always a good idea to quit any programs
running in the background, that are not necessary for the PC, to function.
You probably already know this, but it surprising how many people don't do
it. Then again I have just moved up from 98 to VHP, and I'm not sure what I
can close down and what I can't.

Once you do manage to install the game and all the updates, make sure you
install the NOCD patch last and that it installs to the X2 folder where the
X2.exe is. I wasn't paying attention to where the patch was being extracted
too and it caused me quite a few problems. HTH.

Hi PJ

I had no end of problems trying to get it to run. Once you install the
patches that bring you up to 1.4, install the Artificial Life patch and then
install the NOCD patch. The only thing to make sure is that you extract the
NOCD patch into the X2 folder, which is where I was going wrong I was just
extracting the patch and assumed it was going where it was supposed to go.
Once I did that installed fine and runs. HTH.

i know this is an old post , just incase someone else is looking for the solution here it is .....

1) Insert Disc 1 "install"
2) Right click CD icon in My Computer and select Open
3) On the CD open the folder "program files" and inside should be another folder called "EGOSOFT" copy and paste that folder to where you want to install it (e.g C:\Program Files\)
4) Once the files have been pasted there, Take out Disc 1 "Install" and insert Disc 2 "Game"
5) Once again right click the CD icon in My computer and select open
6) Find the folder "EGOSOFT" located in the "program files" folder and copy and paste to the same place you put the other files (e.g. C:\Program Files) [ i found that instead of copying the entire 2nd 'EGOSOFT' folder, I had to open the folder on the CD and then copy and paste all of the subsequent files into the sub-folder 'x2-the threat' that had been created on pasting the 'ECOSOFT' folder from the first CD]
7) Now Visit http://www.egosoft.com/download/x2/patches_en.php to download and install these patches in this order;

X²: The Threat Update 1.2
X²: The Threat Update 1.4
Artificial Life Update
X²: The Threat No Copy Protection 1.4
X²: The Threat Update 1.5

When installing the patches the patch might ask you where the game is. Just show the patch where the files are on your computer. [make sure that this is also the sub-folder 'x2-the threat' (under programmes\egosoft\x2......), as noted in step 6] If they ask to overwrite files then select "Yes to all"

8.) Go to where you installed the file (e.g. C:\Program Files\EGOSOFT\X2 - The Threat) and in that folder you should find an application file named "X2"/"X2.exe" right click it and select "Send To" then selct "Desktop (create shortcut)"

9) Run the shortcut you just made for your desktop and the game should start."
