Well.... I dont think IE8 has any hope now... Even the latest non-beta of FF is much faster than it, the beta is EVEN faster, and then their Safari 4.0 Final Release... i have this, its great, and much faster then IE8

I like IE8 and use it on two computers. I have zero issues with it. OK, Chrome or FF is a milisecond faster. Not a deal breaker. I'm just a basic web surfer and IE8 is just fine.

When I bought new laptop (dell 1530 4gb ram) it came standard with IE7. I did the upgrade to IE 8 and it will not stay running, seems every 5 it had to restart. I soon tired of that I loaded FF and it works fast and does not have failure issues IE 8 had.

Firefox will never be beaten by IE. Even if it is marginally faster in 'some' tests.
FF is just so incredibly customizable with it's themes and add-ons. 'Ad-block plus' to name but one. What is internet advertising ? ;)
With that plug-in alone FF beats IE in one fell-swoop.
Not to mention Greasemonkey and it's scripts.

Firefox really feels like it's your own browser. Something IE can never be.
Just my opinion...

With its new "Windows Internet Explorer 8: Get the facts" website, Microsoft is promoting IE8 in a questionable way. Ars investigates.

Full Story: Microsoft: IE8 beats Firefox and Chrome in 7 out of 10 areas - Ars Technica

No matter what Microsoft might say, I believe it's the end user who has the last say. According to me I believe that Firefox is a much easy to use , non cluttered , flexible web browser for a layman like me . I do not care much about the security s*** because i know what i am doing. Firefox I have found is the best when it comes to downloading stuff off the internet and can be configured with about:config options... Firefox rules...( I prefer fire fox both at home and at work )

My Computer

IE8 seems to run faster than FireFox. I use the 64-bit IE and it makes the difference to me. I have it customized the same as FF and it works better. If they made FF 64-bit I might go back to it, but not just yet.

I find IE8 slow to me, and IE7 even slower. This is after having tons of tabs opened as I tend to have. And there's quite a delay when opening a new tab too, which doesn't happen with Chrome. (comparing the two, since they both open a new process for each tab)

Memory usage? After having tons of tabs opened, Firefox is better for me. Otherwise is IE + IE + IE + IE +...+ IE (same with chrome), although yes, one tab won't crash them all. This is in "rush hours" and for performance, Firefox also wins for me in "user experience" as opposed to benchmark (chrome may too, but I miss ma'lovely addons.. T_T).

As for standards... yeah sure, was and has been so compatible that requires IE compatibility mode since websites had to be made with lots of tweaks to look properly on IE over the ages. (which is why has more websites requiring IE, for the "ages" part)

Security?... Blame the user for most of that stuff. =_="

#EDIT:
Forgot, Blackhawk, there have been 64bit Windows build of Firefox since a long time ago. Of course, they come with all the 64bit troubles and are completely experimental (which is why is called "Minefield" XD)

Have fun!

    Windows 7 is love~~
Yeah~

I went to Firefox, current version, I keep everything up to date. I must say IE8 is faster, no doubt. I used IE8 for about a month, just couldn't get into it, but did love the speed. I like FF as I can do a lot of stuff with it is all. I can deal with FF being slower. IE8 is really not better than IE7 IMHO, but that's just me. IE7 was nice and simple, so is FF once I had it running for a few weeks.

I guess it's really a matter of personal preference, one thing which is probably boring to most is with FF I can chamge the LOOK if it anytime I want with PERSONAS

Link:: Personas for Firefox | Gallery

Plus I have the Weather in the bottom window, real tiny, which I love, as I can tell what kinda weather I'll be having all week, but then again, I could just watch the TUBE and figure that out, they don't cover my little town though. :geek:

You want speed go with IE8, if yu want full on customization, go FF, that's my advice. :D

Then you'll hate the new Firefox. They're working on the new process for each tab as well.

Future Firefox will be multiprocess - Mozilla Links
