Can't download SP1 RC - stops after 19%

Greetings!

Well .. after wasting much of an evening and after countless tries of getting this service pack on I'm still sitting here! :(

I followed the tut here -> http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/113355-service-pack-1-sp1-release-candidate-1-rc1.html

Got all the prereq installed. Then after waiting the 10-15, I acutally had dinner and came back started to d/l the SP. It got to 6% and stopped, sat there for a while and then failed with a code of 80070002. Click on the get help link and followed the instructions for clearing out the Software Distribution folder.

Then I checked for updates again. Did the same thing, stopped and failed at 6%. This time I clicked the 'Try Again' button. This time after hanging out for a while it went to 19%. But then it failed .. AGAIN! If I try again it just stays at 19%.

I figured that maybe the server is overwhelmed. It was 9pm EST or so. I tried again here at 5:15am figuring that most of the US is in a coma at this time. Same results.

Any ideas on how to get this SP? I'm plum out of ideas! :(

I'm down for anything, just to get this to work! Why did they have to change the way SP where handled? The d/l from a URL was just fine!

You'll have to pardon my ignorance on this one. What's the difference between the two? Other than this one has 5 languages in it.

What I'd really like to know is what that numeric code means. It's funny that it d/l's a portion of it and then just goes to lunch on the rest.

This is just the standalone package, rather than via windows update.

The 5-Language standalone package supports installations on all versions of Windows Vista with one or a combination of the following languages installed: English, German, Japanese, French, Spanish.

The All-Language standalone package supports installations on all versions of Windows Vista with one or a combination of the 36 Windows Vista languages installed.

As for the error code I have no idea.

z3 thanks for the info! ;)

That'll be priority #1. I gotta BIOS flash to do too. There are time I really hate getting a new computer. I wonder how widows 3.1 would run on a core 2 duo? j/k Although .. I do still have my floppies for window 3.1! Scary, isn't it?!

I'll post to this again once the verdict is in!

Well .. I downloaded the standalone SP1 RC file. Once again got the 0x80070002 error. Same as the windows update. I think tomorrow I'm going to reinstall Vista and before I put any drivers or programs on I'll try getting SP1 RC to go. It's just a thought.

All respect due .. I say that at microsoft already. That was my first, second, third ... I think up to eighth try. Seems to be alot of people are having this problem from reading this posting at microsoft technet

A re-install and then after that try to put SP1 RC on. Just more fun than is really allowed by law!

Try going to Windows > SoftwareDistribution > Download. Remove or delete everything in the folder (I deleted mine). Now see if it will d/l.

Good Luck:)

Jax,

Did that too. It's the same solution that wwoods had and I had found the same article he read from way before he posted it.

I'm not worried .. I haven't really installed that much stuff yet that would make it that big of a deal. Plus, I get a rush typing format C: :)

I re-installed Vista .. and got SP1 RC to install successfully!

I have no idea what went wrong ... or ... where for that fact. I'll have to put it under some stress to see if things are better! I got one blue screen already STOP 0x0000001E.

Lets see what happens! ;)
