Hello

My vista home premium 64, service pack 1, cannot be updated. I tried to do all the advices that I was able to find in the differents forums and in the Microsoft Knowledge Database.

  • I uninstalled my antivirus and firewall security software, rebooted my systems, no success...
  • I deleted the content of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download, rebooted my systems, nothing...
  • I donwloaded, installed and run the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista 64-bit. It ended ok, but still I couldn't update my system
  • I donwloaded Vista Service Pack 2, and I tried to install it directly from it, no sucess...
  • I found this solution in the forums:
    • net stop cryptsvc
      ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
      net start cryptsvc
It didn't work
  • I tried to do also this, opening a command line window as administrator:
    • regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s
  • also this
    • sfc /scannow
no errors, doesn't work

Please, can you help me?

Best regards

Hi jlauriale, welcome to the forums.

I've seen 1 solution somwhere that might help, it did with me once. Windows Update connects using IEs settings, you could try to 'reset' Internet Explorer in the advanced settings tab. This will completely reset IE, including any addons you may have installed.
Note   Note
You will need to reinstall any addons you had, but try 1 at a time just in case it was 1 of them causing the issue

Hope this helps :)
