Vista 32bbit multiple update failures

Hi,
i have erased the hard drive on my grandson's laptop to get rid of a stubborn virus, and re-installed drivers and Windows Vista. There are about 113 updates which download, then install, and then on restart go through the "configuring" process.

Then I get the message that the updates were not configured correctly, and the changes are all reverted.

I did this twice yesterday, then wiped everything again, reinstalled Vista and all the other programmes, and downloaded the Windows updates through Iobit ASC instead of direct from Windows Update - with the same result!

I have done this before with no problems, and everything else on the laptop is working fine. Please help!

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the help. I have now got down to 67 Updates which refuse to install. I am now getting the code 8024200D. I have taken Microsoft's advice and installed tool KB947821 (Update Standalone Installer), but that hasn't helped. After several days messing with the laptop I'm getting ready to throw it through the window!

My new plan is to go into town and buy a copy of Windows 7. I then intend to use Webroot System Eraser again, and then put everything back after installing Windows 7, which is a far better system in my opinion.

Once again, thank you for taking the trouble to help me out.

Bill.
