Vista Update Loop Problem

Hello everyone. I did a good amount of research on the update problem that reads: "configuring update stage 3 of 3 0% complete" Following that it just shuts down and repeats. Almost every solution that I come to requires the start-up disk that came with the machine. However I do not have this.

Is there a way using command prompt that I can delete the update all together?

I have already set everything in this computer back to zero because of a registry error, I thought it was good to go, then 2 days later this issue happens.

Someone please help!

Ok, it said in the thread located above, that i should:

C:windows/software distribution/del /f /s /q downloads

restarted pc.

Then its still telling me that its configuring updates 3 of 3 0% but this time it let me log in.

So hopefully this issue is resolved, thank you guys.
