Which .NET Framework?

Looking at the nine Windows updates available, how do I find which .NET Framework version I have? No sense downloading updates for 2.0, 3.0 if I have 3.5, for instance.

Hello ColColt,

Install all of the updates that it wants to install. The .NET framework 2.0 is built into Windows 7 and gets installed when you install Windows. 3, 3.5, 4 and 4.5 are your choice whether you want to install them. A lot of programs depend on the .NET framework to run, so I would highly recommend that you install all of them to stop you running into any side by side errors.

Windows Update would not offer updates to components that aren't installed on your computer, but to check what .NET frameworks you have installed on your computer. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall or Change a Program. You will now be shown the list of software installed on your computer. They are listed under Microsoft .NET...

If you don't have Windows 7, why download the .NET Framewrok associated with it? I've seen Microsoft offer updated and some they were for XP. Having Vista there's no need in that either. Maybe I'm missing something.

Sorry for the confusion, for some reason I thought you were on Windows 7; my mistake.

The .NET framework 2.0 comes preinstalled on Vista as well, as does 3.0. The .NET frameworks aren't for specific versions of Windows, they will work across the board. They are extra components to allow programs build on the .NET framework to run so it's best to have all of them.

I see. I just installed all of them. Usually, I check them out to see if they're pertinent to Vista SP2 and if not, or I perceive that they're not, I don't install.
