Windows update causing NTVDM.EXE Error

I installed Windows updates on 15th June and when I ran a GSP Family Tree software program, it came up with a NTVDM.EXE has stopped working error.

I have been running this program for years on Vista without any problems so I thought the problem would be related to the windows updates.

I have uninstalled the windows updates, see attached screen shot, and the program works okay again.

Can anyone identify which of the updates might be causing this problem?

Hello Hawkeye58. You may have to use a process of elimination, i.e. install the security updates for Vista one at a time until your program is broken again. Probably no one here is using your program. The file ntvdm.exe hasn't been modified since 2008. It seems unlikely that an update for Office or IE was the culprit.

I notice that on June 10 there were two repeat installs of May's Malicious Software Removal Tool. I observed that on June 13, but did not allow it to install again: http://www.vistax64.com/windows-upd...-removal-tool-returns-haunt-me-june-13-a.html.

You don't need 2 thread for this. I wouldn't suspect the IE or office updates. Otherwise I agree with Vistaar and just reinstall them one at a time. Running 16-bit legacy applications on anything newer than XP can be problematic at best. If you have a serial number for xp you can set up a virtual machine and perhaps get better more reliable results.
