Solved Vista blocking updates for several progs, can I safely update to 8.1 on "free" sites?

Most seem to have "attachments" I don't want

Please elaborate on blocked programs because perhaps we can help. To answer your question no-using a pirated version of Windows is a bad idea. Also this goes against the forum rules of discussions on pirated software.

No, I wouldn't trust any website that says that it can get you 8.1 for free because:

1. it's illegal to download/use a pirated/cracked copy
2. the ones you find on google almost always install crapware to your pc and disable windows defender/etc.
