Windows x64 with latest Windows updates installed and Delorme Topo menus

I've been running Delorme Topo 5.0 under Windows Vista 32-bit without any problems. Topo 5.0 some time ago was also running under Windows Vista x64. After a re-installation of Windows Vista x64 I put off installing Topo 5.0. Recently after a successful installation of Delorme Topo 5.0, when Topo 5.0 is exectured there is a Topo 5.0 window without any menus and maps.

Windows Vista x64 is updated with all the latest Microsoft updates.

I haven't been able to find any help on this problem from the Delorme Community.

It appears there's some sort of incompatibility with one or more of the more recent Windows Updates, but can't off-hand think of which one(s) would effect Topo 5.0 menuing.

I have thought about upgrading to a later version of Delorme Topo however I'm not certain which later versions are compatible, some will most likely have the same problem as I'm having with Topo 5.0. I don't need all the bells and whistles of the latest version designed for Windows 10 running on a more powerful PC.

My only requirement is to display a map with a few basic mapping functions such as locate an address or coordinates and possibly some fundamental routing. Which is included in Topo 5.0.

If you're running SP2 with all the updates, then I suggest running an update for Delorme from within it, if that function is available.

Yes that would be nice, however the trend of many software vendors today is not to offer support and updates for their older outdated software. One reason why I prefer running Topo version 5.0 is it has fewer system requirements and requires fewer system resources, that works well from an older rugged Laptop that was built using XP and Vista.

If I upgrade to a later Topo version. I'm not certain which version is capable to run Vista. Later Topo versions usually require more system resources such as cpu, memory and possibly OS requirements of Windows 7 and higher, would not be able to run under Vista.

As you probably know, there are threads from 2007 indicating that already-old Topo 5.0 didn't work well on Vista, e.g. Vista and Topo 5.0 - Topo USA 5.0 - DeLorme Community Forums. If you still happen to have an XP system, it might run much better on that.

All I know is Topo 5.0 was running well on Vista but after a fresh reinstallation of Vista with the latest updates and re-installation of Topo 5.0, Topo 5.0 quit functioning. So I'm assuming the problem is related to Vista's updates. Before the re-installation, Vista was at least several months behind on it's updates, as I had disabled windows update and it's notifications.

I really don't want to re-install Vista again then install Topo 5.0 before any updates.

I do have another PC. I suppose I could run two PC's one with Vista and the other with XP for Topo 5.0.
