    Infinite Internet Explorer Windows

I don't know how to reproduce this particular problem, because it only happens once every couple of week, but once in while, Internet Explorer exhibits some curious behavior.

It just starts "replicating". By this I mean IE 7 windows just start opening up as though I clicked the icon in Quick Launch, and it continues to do this untill I open Task Manager and endtask IEXPLORE.EXE. These are not "normal" popups, because the IE windows open to my homepage.

Has anyone else had this problem, and how can I fix it?

    Hi Dzomlija,

I have seen multiple browser windows open like this for a Windows Mail related problem. Take a look at this tutorial to see if it will help you. It will not hurt anything to try it since it is only setting the settings back to the normal default.

How to Fix Multiple Browser Windows Opening When You Click On a MailTo Link in Vista

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks Brink, I'll try that, and I'll keep you posted as to whether the problem recurs or not. We'll have to wait and see. As I said, it highly irregular, and could therefore take a while to see if the "fix" works or not...

It's happened again. This is what I done:

I opened an email in Outlook 2007 to read a reply to a subscribed thread in the genral NG. I clicked the link to open the thread in IE7 so that I could reply to it myself. That went well, until I decided to close the tab by clicking the "X" on the tab.

The screenshot (which I resized down to 800x600) for space purposes shows what is happening. It took the better part of 2 minutes to be able to get to Task Manager so that I could End Process IEXPLORE.EXE

Maybe there is something else causing this that we haven't seen yet?

    Peter,

I am betting that Outlook may have something to do with this. It is a known issue that everytime Outlook updates it will usually automatically set itself as the default email program instead of Windows Mail. This may be throwing things off a bit.

You might try running this again to see if Windows Mail is still the default email program.

Windows Mail - MailTo link error

Since it happened when you clicked the X on the browser tab, make sure that Internet Explorer has all of it's defaults set to it to. See this tutorial for how. Just select "Internet Explorer" and click "Set this program as default".

This time I used the .reg download you provided.

It was 5 days until I got this "cascade" error after checking the tutorial, so we'll see...
