Windows Mail Problems - Throbbing Vista Headache

Ok,

Having problems with Vista and am really dissappointed. One of the main problems I am having is with Windows Mail. Much less user friendly than Outlook Express. The main problems I am having are:

1) Missing several emails from others. I have a desktop computer set up with XP and outlook express which is receiving all of the emails without a problem, however, my laptop with vista and windows mail captures only some of these emails. Junk mail folders don't contain these emails either. Why are they not coming through?

2) Also, when I am in a file (Excel or Word) that I want to send to someone, I can't just right click on it / or go to file and then scroll down to "send file as an attachment". I have to manually save the file first, exit, then open windows mail, create a new message and then attach the saved file. Very frusterating to have to go through all these steps. Thought that Vista and Windows mail were supposed to be an upgrade?

3) Also, my saved contacts from Outlook Express are much more of a headache to manage. None of them will auto complete in the "Send to" line when sending a message. I have to go into the contacts folder every time and manually select each one. Again, upgrade?

4) Also having numerous Driver problems with various hardware. Finding simple solutions to vista hardware connectivity seems impossible.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix these issues - especially windows mail? Also are there going to be any free Vista upgrades from microsoft to fix all the issues they have created?

Thanks,

Hi Demps,

Welcome to the forums.

1. Don't know why you would get emails on one and not the other, unless you have multiple email accounts and one or more are not set up right on the laptop. This link might help:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62560-windows-mail-problems.html

2. In word, I went to file send to/recipient (as attachement). Worked fine so don't know about that. What version of Office do you have.

3. In WM only the last 29 people you emailed are remembered for auto complete. As long as you haven't improperly moved your contacts folder, you can type a name or part of a name in the To: line, seperated by ; or , and when you hit send, it will look up the address in contacts. If there is only one possibility, then the email will go to the outbox. If there is more than one it will offer a list of choices.

Hope this helps.
Gary

I don't know the reasons for these problems either. My email account is set up exactly the same as on my XP computer, yet my windows mail displays this erratic behavior.

I have downloaded Windows Live Mail to see if I have any success with this.

The version of MS office is 2003. If any others have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,

Ok,

I have now downloaded windows Live Email, and it apperas to be working better, however, I am unable to import my Contact GROUPS. My contacts transfered fine, but the Email Groups I had Set up have no contacts in them. Any ideas? Do I have to go back and manually enter all the persons in each of these groups? If so, my throbbing headache will come back, I'm sure.

cdempsey,

I wholeheartedly recommend Thunderbird 2 over Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail. In a word, Windows Mail sucks....

Yet another problem,

After downloading Windows Live mail and importing my contacts, none of my group folders import with contacts attached. They were all empty. When attempting numerous times to import these files successfully, all it did was create duplicates of all my other contacts. I got up to 5 sets of duplicates before I realized the problem. Outlook express allows you to correct this by preventing duplicates to be created. Apparently that is not the case with Windows Live Mail.

HELP!!!!! There appears to be no way to get these duplciates off my contact list without manually deleting them one by one. By the time this is done, I will be 65 and jobless. Thanks Microsoft. Can't quite understand how you managed to screw up this bad. Was reasonably happy with XP before I inherited this Vista Nightmare from Dell (sent me a new compter to solve their hardware issues).

Is there anyway to save my productivity before the work week?

As far as everything I experience as a user, EVERYTHING about vista is bad.
Even the simple act of trying to find a file is next to impossible.
It seems that Microsoft just changed a bunch of things for the sake of changing a bunch of things, not improving them.
There was some transferrance of basic functions from 95 to 98 to 2000 to XP, but Vista threw out the baby with the bathwater. Im starting a community called http://replacevista.ning.com - check it out in a few days.
