Cannot use right click on web sites to use functions

Johannes

Closed as requested
I just got this new pc with Vista Premium 32 bit. Now I cannot right click on any web site or page while using Internet Explorer 7 to use any of the functions. However, it does work in Netscape and on the other pc in I.E. As I am totally inept with computer programs, could the problem be with the I.E settings? If so, how do I change that. I have looked and tried several functions, but can not get it to work. My pc is a HP a6418f I would appreciate all replies.

To make it clearer, this happens in I.E. 7 when I "right click" on my web site to look at properties or source of a picture for example. However, on a pc with Windows XP home it does work in I.E.7 it is therefore I believe it has something to do with Vista Premium.

It does work in Netscape and on the other pc in I.E. 7 As I am totally inept with computer programs, could the problem be with the I.E settings? or with Vista premium? My pc is a HP a6418f I would appreciate all replies.

Re: I might have posted this in the wrong section

Hi Johannes,

Thanks for the reply. Can you post back with an attachment like I have done so that I can compare it with mine? I am specifically looking for active (dark) commands and inactive (greyed out) ones. To do this, open a new tab. Right click on a blank spot and then press 'PrtScn'. Open 'Paint' and press 'Ctrl' + 'v' to paste the image. Next, follow the instructions in the tutorial 'How to use the Snipping Tool in Vista' (link given below) to select the image and include it in your reply. This should give me (or someone else) a clue as to where the problem lies as this is the method I used to attach the image in my previous post.

Done with the edit, I can go over the black ones and it will still not do anything. It does when I open the web site in Netscape or on the other pc in I.E 7 which has Windows XP.
this is the one in Netscape

Very weird!
Just a thought can you search in the registry the word "restrictions" as a whole word which could be a key under a section of Internet Explorer ?

I will try to find it:o It does not let me upload the file (invalid file) I will make a jpg of it.

Hi Johannes,

Very puzzling. Try the following. Click the start orb and in the right hand column, click on 'Default Programs'. Click on 'Set your default programs' and a list of programs will appear. This is my list - apart from 'QuickTime', which you may or may not have installed, is your list different?
Capture.JPG

Click on 'Internet Explorer' and then click 'Set this program as default'. Finally, close this dialogue. It is possible that you have corrupted files - follow the instructions in the following tutorial, 'How to Repair and Verify the Integrity of Vista System Files with System File Checker', link given below.

Well, so maybe it comes from your mouse driver (kensington)
It should appear in msconfig/startup, disable it and try your right click after reboot.

I tried to follow the instructions, but could get no further than the first step. I entered the cmd, but no list with option to choose adm came up. In the pic you will see that after entering the cmd, that first C: \users\ Joe> comes up. I tried to delete that with back spacing in order to enter the text according to the example.
That did not work.
I must also mention that because of the brain injury I had, I have an extremely difficult time to follow written directions/instructions. Much like a person with severe dyslexia

3. Right click cmd (at top) and click Run as administrator.
NOTE: This opens a elevated command prompt.

You missed the *right click* part when you find the CMD command - if you enter CMD you've already passed the part where the menu pops up and give you the option to Run as Administrator.

Stumped again. I did get through the scan and tried to follow the instructions on the ms page by entering the file path as directed. I did go wrong somewhere. see attachment. Would you have a simple but step by step direction as how to proceed? I have the end of scan and subsequent filepath copied from the MS page

Thanks Sid, I'll try that next, but I sem to recall that this issue started before I got the Track Ball mouse when I still used the ms mouse that came with the unit

EDIT: No, it did not make a difference, I just unchecked the kensington mouse, restarted and tested my web page. I have now re checked the K mouse
