Vista - Explorer works, but Firefox doesn't

I recently had my computer fixed, and when I got it back, Internet explorer works, though firefox somehow can't connect.

Also (Not sure if it's relevent, but) i tried to install Java, but it says It couldnt download with the current connection settings. I tried allowing firefox through my windows firewall, but it's still not working. I'm pretty sure I don't have any other firewalls.

Any help would be appriciated.

Hi, Metalanca, and welcome to the forums.

You can download JAVA through IE - but have you tried either running Firefox in Safe Mode and / or creating a new profile and / or reinstalling Fx?

And you need to be a *lot* more patient - 4 hours is not nearly enough time to get impatient - 4 days, maybe, 4 hours, no.

I tried downloading Java through IE, and I got "The installer cannot proceed with the current internet connection settings."

I know i sound like a noob, but I don't know how to run Firefox in safe mode, or creating a new profile.

I'm guessing by Fx you mean firefox, I did reinstall it, though still not working.

EDIT: I ran firefox in safe mode, didn't work.

How to create a new profile (read the whole thing, not just the creating a new profile stuff, as it is a good thorough walk through on how to trouble shoot Firefox issues): Basic Troubleshooting

just a note, I have heard of this specific behaviour if people have previously had Norton/Symantec products installed. Does this apply ?

Little free tool called 'EnumProcess' can probably help you identify whats stopping it working. You can find it by googling it.

In that case either a reinstallation of the product and / or use of the Norton Removal tool should fix the issue.

I tried un installing norton, but when I try to uninstall it, I get "the specific module cannot be found"

When I try to download the Norton Removal tool, It won't connect to the download site.

Use Internet Explorer to download the tool.

Make sure that FireFox is not configured to use a proxy that is no longer available. Go to:

Tools --> Options... --> Advanced --> Network --> Settings...

And set it to "No Proxy".
