Every time I try and do something open browser, email, etc.
A box pops up saying " Do you want to allow software such as Active X controls and plug ins to run" I know it is just a setting some where but I can't find it.
So asking for some help in locating this setting so I can stop the box from popping up all the time.
Oh running Vista home premium X64.
Thanks.

Any ideas please, this is driving me nuts.

Hello tossedmycookies, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Have you adjusted your IE7 security settings?

1. In IE7, click on Tools and Internet Options
2. Click on the Security tab
3. If the Internet option does not have the Default level button grayed out, then click on it.
4. If the Default level button is grayed out, then click on the Custom level button.
A) Scroll down to Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins and dot Enable.
B) Click OK.
5. Click OK.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi, tossedmycookies, and welcome to the forums (Shawn {not of the Dead} would have welcomes you but he's been really busy doing a bang-up job on the tutorials...

Also, be sure to run a few antivirus scans, both with any products you have installed as well as a couple of online ones - it sounds suspiciously like a LOP.com infection may have gotten to you as well....

Thank you Brink, I knew this was the cause just could not remember where the setting was to change it.
Have been reading through the forum the past few days very informative, helpful people here.
I am sure I will have a few more problems along the way with vista but knowing there are places like this helps out.
Thanks again Tossed.

Hi john thanks for your response as well.
I don't think this is spyware/virus related.
Brand new setup here have never really browsed/downloaded enough yet to get myself into trouble yet lol.
Would you have any suggestions on spyware/antivirus programs for vista x64?
I use Avast and like it very much.
I also have superantispyware installed but I don't think it's compatible with vista x64.
Use Adaware.
Also would u know if cleanup is compatible, i tried it. It worked once then for some strange reason, I clicked on the icon and it brought up google.
Well any info about spyware related software that runs with vista x64 would be great.
Thanks John.

Well, Malwarebytes AntiMalware is getting really good reviews (disclosure: I beta test for them but am not involved in making any money off them, not even as an affiliate), and the only thing that *doesn't work in x64 is the resident scanner - which is what you would get if you bought it - but the freeware version allows for unlimited scans on demand and does not restrict you in any other way besides the lack of resident scanning.

AFAICT< I think SUPER *is* x64 compliant, but I'll have to check again....

As for AV, that is your personal preference - some say one, some say another, and *I* say Symantec Endpoint Security (my company makes me use it) works well on my machine....

LavaSoft Ad-Aware (I think this is the one you referred to) is getting better on Vista, and Spybot 1.6 is a lot more Vista compatible, as is Spywareblaster (which is more of a preventative measure, much like hosts files, than a scanner for malicious files).

HTH

Your welcome Tossedmycookies.

I have tried Superantispyware and it works fine with x64. The other programs that John mentioned are great on Vista 64 also.
