windows mail issue with windstream

I know some have had the issue recently with Windows Mail not being able to
send email with Windstream. Receiving email works fine. The following error comes up:

Account: 'Email', Server: 'pop.windstream.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

When this happened to me, I had to go into Windows Mail/Tools/Accounts/(your account name)...and select Authentication for Outgoing Server only...with password, etc. I also had
to de-select authentication for the Incoming Server. The old settings worked fine until recently, so Windstream apparently changed their authentication setting requirements.
Hope this helps some folks who may have been as frustrated as I was.
