Hello everyone,

We are experiencing problems receiving mail from our AT&T/Yahoo account in Windows Mail. Here is the setup of the network:

Motorola MSTATEA modem
Cisco 24 port switch

We have no domain or anything elaborate liek that. The internet connection is fine and other than the mail issue, we have no problems with anything else on the network on this Vista Ultimate 64bit machine.

To help you out with potential solutions/workarounds, here is the Windows mail account settings:

Mail account: pop.att.yahoo.com
Email: [email protected]
Return address: [email protected]
Incoming server: POP3
POP3: pop.att.yahoo.com
SMTP: smtp.att.yahoo.com

Server port no:
Outgoing (SMTP): 465
Incoming (POP3): 995
SSL checked for BOTH ports

So when I try to refresh and receive mail, then I get this message:

Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Any suggestions would be greatly aprechiated. thank you.

Thank you for the reply though this does not apply to Windows Mail, but to Outlook Express 4.0.1. Furthermore, Microsoft Exchange Server is not present here so it is easily ruled out that any setting in it may be causing the issue.

We have several Vista machines here and only one has the issue. I am looking into what is the difference between the machines. In the mean time fellas, please brainstorm along with me as ther emay be something veryy simple I might be overlooking.

satorisama,

Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not checked for the incoming server.
