Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

When I try to log in to G Mail it doesn't recognise my log-in details and when I try to retrieve them the security question that comes up is not my question and I don't know the answer to it so I am unable to log in at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get in to get my emails. I also have ads running at Google ADwards and can't get in to that either.

Have you tried support at Google, don't know if that will get you any help with regards your problem.

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

I sent google a message through their help section but they never answered it. I have looked at all their different suggestions but none of them help. Is that what you mean by support at google?

Yes that was it, I've never had to use it so didn't know just what sort of support there is or if it may have helped, sorry it didn't.

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

Thanks Joan for trying to help. The Google help section does give suggestions on lots of different problems but none on what happens if the wrong security question comes up. And they don't provide a way to contact them except for a place where you can offer suggestions but they tell you that they rarely answer.

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

Hi Derrick, and welcome to the forums

Have you tried to reset your password? this is a standard first choice to solve this sort of problem.

you may need an alternative email address to achieve this if so have a look at GMX - Free E-Mail - Webmail & POP3, IMAP

You may want to contact Google from the account page using the "I think someone else is using my account" link as the security question has changed

keep us posted of progress

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

Thanks Nigel.

Yes I have done that and they sent an email back saying they didn't have a record of my email so couldn't confirm my log-in details.

It does look as if someone may be using it and changed everything but I'll try again tomorrow in case it is a glitch with their system and they fix it.

It's not good that you can't contact them directly when you think there is someone using your account. I have an adwords campaign going and it seems to have stopped too.

I'll keep you posted.

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

Well am I having fun! I took your advice and clicked the "I think someone else is using my account" One of the questions was if I was using adwords and I am so I clicked yes, and answered some questions about my adwords campaigns and sent it off. I got a reply from google adwords and was able to log in to that but my gmail still wouldn't work. So I replied to the email I got from them and they sent a reply back saying that they could only help with adwords, I would have to contact gmail to get help with that.

I can't believe their system. It was in the gmail section that I started the process and I ended up with the adwords help!!

So now I have gone back and started again and when it asks do I use adwords with my account I said no and got to a page where I had to fill out info about my gmail account - which was difficult because you have to give 5 email addresses of people that you email from gmail frequently. I found that difficult for two reasons, one I can't get in to gmail to have a look at my address file and two, I don't email many people I only receive messages. Anyway, I managed to put the addresses in and have sent the form off. So hopefully I'll get a reply in about 24 hours or so.

I used to like Gmail but I've been turned right off it now.

Thanks barman58 for the tip about someone using the account, that was just what I needed.

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

Hi derrick,

glad to hear you are getting some response, I think that Gmail may be a victim of it's own success. it has grown so large very quickly and as with a lot of other companies over the years it's customer service that suffers.
hopefully now that you are in the database due to your adwords enquirythe may get back to you a little quicker

Re: Wrong Security Question in Gmail Log In

Yes I think you may be right.

I have finally had success. They told me that they have "re-instated" my gmail account and told me how to access it. No word about why it was un-instated, probably because I unsuccessfully tried to log in so many times. I still think it was because I changed to Vista that the problem started but all's well that ends' well.

If anyone else has the same trouble, go straight to "my account has been compromised' or 'I think someone is using my account'. That's the only way to get action and get to correspond with them.

Thanks again for your help Nigel.
