Can't browse Internet from Vista machine

Hi all,

Got a problem browsing Internet from Vista Ultimate x64 machine.

Symptoms:
- Can browse for about 10 secs before it stops working
- Can still ping stuff
- Laptop on same network works perfect
- ISP bill is paid

What I done so far:
- Reset router and stripped it right down to no additional services/security running
- Reset winsock
- Removed/disabled all firewall software on the system

What I am trying now:
- Gonna run SpyBot
- Gonna run Winsockfix (still think that's where the issue is)

What to do next? This is so damn annoying... got me lost for ideas, hoping to find someone much smarter then me.

Thanks in advance for help.

Re: Can't browse Internet from Vista machine

Hi zgnilek, and welcome to the vista forums,

It seems that you have tried most of what I would suggest, some other things you may want to try ...

Disable IPv6 in NIC properties

Check router manufacturer for Vista firmware updates.

you don't say which browser you are using but have you tried an alternative to check if the issue is browser related.

Have seen a fair amount of discussion of this sort of thing with vista - not common but definitely a problem with some set-ups which is not at present been solved but strangely quite often cures itself

Re: Can't browse Internet from Vista machine

Hey, I found out that vista's december update is the culprit on my internet problem. I reinstall my OS without updating and install the usual programs I use then voila! No more problem with my internet.

Re: Can't browse Internet from Vista machine

ok guys, not much luck here so far (it's driving me off the walls). Can't run Spybot, because it needs to connect to the Internet before it can scan my system (how is that for an oxymoron).

Anyways, I would still like to hear from someone who can diagnose and help me fix this. I appreciate the speculations, however I doubt that Microsoft would put out a service pack that corrupts winsock (as I am sure the issue lies somewhere there).

Tried logging an issue request with Microsoft but the bastards want payment for providing support... To which i say, "i didn't pay for your OS in first place, wtf should i pay you for support". :P

Anyways, i'm just venting i suppose, really frustrated now.

Re: Can't browse Internet from Vista machine

Peace out,

After having read a few of the posts on these forums, I notice a common theme, lots of people replying with simple 101 diagnostic replies and nobody actually replying anything worthwhile.

So I say peace out and thanks for the diagnostics (which I am more then capable of running myself)
