Vista - help with facebook

Hi, I'm new, so please accept my appologies for being so inept.
Here's my problem:
From the first time I did a search for facebook.com, all I got was text. No flashy logo, no "buttons" to click on, just boxes with red "x"s in them. I have managed to set up an account by using a friend's computer, but I still can't use the site on mine. It's a Vista Home. I've tried every search engine I can think of using and still no improvement. It doesn't crash, but all the print is lined up on the left hand side of the screen and no graphics other than photos, and I can't view all of those. If I need a flash, it's not showing it, and I do have JAVA on game sites, but it's not coming up on Facebook. I have no problem with gaming sites or MySpace.com.
Can anyone help me before I throw this whole thing out the back door?

First off, which browser are you using?
If it is IE7 or 8, I would recommend you try viewing the site on either FireFox, or Chrome to see if the error continues. If it does, then it will be much harder to fix, but I suspect that they will show it fine. That would mean IE is the problem.

Ok, so this could be an error with your settings, or with the site. I can access it fine myself, though, so it is not the server. Try right clicking on the arrows and click "Show Picture". Have you installed any adblockers or antivirus software?

yes, I have tried right-clicking to show pictures....doesn't work.
yes, we do have anti-virus software and ad blockers.
don't be fooled into thinking, however, that since I know they're there that I'm bright enough to know what to do with them.

Just to check: You are not blocking the images at Facebook?

I remember having this problem myself with a few sites, but that was years ago. I remember it just fixed itself.

So you had the same problem on both FireFox and Chrome?

To my knowledge I am not blocking anything on Facebook.
I've checked to make sure, but unless I've missed something, I'm not blocking.
Yes, I have the same problem on all browsers. I've come to the conclusion that my Vista hates Facebook, or vice-versa.

Interesting... Try a Vista Repair. Pop in the Vista DVD and hit Repair. This MIGHT fix it. Big IF.

I don't really think it will, but it could be some crazy error with IE. It is still worth a shot. Nothing to lose there.
