| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Arrrgh HELP!!!!!! MailTo link problems I have a webpage with a link like: MailTo:someone@xxxxxx In windows XP clicking this link activates mail client new message window (Outlook in my case), allowing user to fill in the email message and send it (address automatically filled in convieniently). The webpage containing the MailTo link remains displayed in browser (Firefox). In Vista, clicking this link also activates mail client (Windows Mail) but just the mail client no new message window to actually type message into. However, it also loads MailTo:someone@xxxxxx into an IE7 browser address window, then generates message in browser window "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Of course it shouldn't even be trying to display a MailTo: as a webpage. This is seriously messing with my mind and i need to resolve it so i can happily click away on MailTo links to my hearts content without having to find then copy and paste the MailTo address every time |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: Arrrgh HELP!!!!!! MailTo link problems Have you tried to do the same thing using a different web browser? Try using IE 7 or IE 8 RC 1, see it that makes a difference. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Arrrgh HELP!!!!!! MailTo link problems Hello Misty, and welcome to Vista Forums. In addition, double check to make sure that Windows Mail is set as the default program with all of it's associations, especially the MAIL TO association. Windows Mail Default Associations Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Arrrgh HELP!!!!!! MailTo link problems thanks for the replies guys but unfortunately they were unhelpful. I guess i should have mentioned in my first post that it happens with IE7 as well and i had already checked the default programme associations and protocols and they are all correct as far as i can tell. Windows mail is the default mail programme and it has all defaults selected. the only file association that i am unsure about is the ".mapimail" file. it says it is "mail service" in the description but has "unknown application" in the programme list. i would not know whether it is supposed to have "WinMail" or "WindowsMailGadget" as the programme or something else or nothing just as it is. i do not subscribe to or use any type of newsgroup if it is related to that thanks |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Arrrgh HELP!!!!!! MailTo link problems Misty, If it hasn't been to long a go, you might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated when it did work may fix it for you. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Arrrgh HELP!!!!!! MailTo link problems i wish it were as simple as that. I have only had the laptop since christmas as it was an insurance replacement. unfortunately i was also in the middle of relocating cities so didnt actually set up anything and properly start using it till beginning of february and i have had this problem since the start. I thought it might have been something i didnt know about windows vista since this was the first time i had encountered it. I am used to windows xp or preferably win98 (shhhhhh). i just set things up like i would normally on either of those 2 operating systems when it came to adding my email accounts etc and i have had no problem with sending and recieving mail the traditional way through the mail client windows mail just as i would have with outlook express. it is just the "MailTo" links |
