Installed and using without any problem.

I do notice that when I open the browser, it takes a few seconds too long to load my home page (Google News). Mozilla 3.0.7 and IE7 loaded faster. I am talking about three (3) to five (5) seconds tops. Those anyone else notice this small delay?

After this initial (but not troublesome delay), it works fine in all other areas. Switched from Firefox because safety features in IE8 are supposedly better.

Using 64bit version.:)

I'm having load up time issues. With IE 7, home page would load up in a half a second with IE 8, home page loads in 8 seconds. It's way slower on home page load up and when switching from tabs a 2 to 3 second delay. With IE 7 tab switching was instantaneous. Other than that IE 8 seemed to function fine, although I am using Vista home premium 32 bit. Just wondering if the 64 bit version is as trouble some. From what I have seen and read all the 64 for bit versions are fine and pages load even faster the IE 7. I wonder if there is some sort of compatibility issue with 32 bit versus 64 bit. So I went back to IE 7 for now until some fix might be made available.

That could be a result of frag, and possible disk issues. Installing and loading IE8 (and any other software can result in scattered files that your CPU has to compile and execute in order)

Nope, sure didn't think about that. I was thinking about giving IE 8 another try anyway. Then I'll do my pc cleanup maintenance and see what happens. Thanks.

Well I tried IE 8 again and again home page loading time issues. Only this time it was 10 seconds to load up my home page, two seconds longer than before. I ran all my pc maintenance software. spyware, adware, malware, temporary files, defragged hd and registry clean up, checked hard disk for issues - none present. It seemed to make it worse than before. I'll wait a few months and see what happens.

Tell me you didnt do a registry cleaner? They are notorious for corruption of Windows. They are unable to distinuish between legitimate and unwanted registry entries. You probably have Windows/program corruption now.
Again I suggest you do a full defrag through the command prompt (not the default defrag), and scan your Drive for file errors, bad sectors. Here:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/165576-how-make-vista-more-responsive-faster.html

ps- most of the "performance/maintainence" programs are gimmicks- they use the default Vista defrag tool, and mess up the registry. Half the threads in this forum for Windows issues are a direct result of Users using Reg cleaner "performance" tools- and end up with a system that that is slow and malfunctioning. This ultimately results in the need to re-install Vista.

I defrag often but defragged again just to see if IE8 initial load improved. NOPE! But don't get me wrong, once it is loaded initially, it works fine and I don't notice any delay. Since sometimes I close the browser to do other things, when I re-open, the delay is there.

If I minimize the browser and keep running in the background, no delay is noticed when I open another Tab. I am just curious if there is a tweak/setting that can fix this. It really does'nt bother me knowing that overall I am using a better browser.

I axed Firefox and IE7 already and don't think I'll go back unless something drastic forces me to.

Defrag through control panel or command prompt?
Have you tried tweaking Vista to improve speed and performance?

Ok, got it, I defraged through cmd prompt. Next. question: I have two hard drives, C: is the main hard drive with partition on it, D:, that holds the factory image on it. Second hard drive, E:, is used for back ups and storage. How do I defrag E: drive.

same command:

Administrator: Command Prompt

defrag e: -w

Or do it through Control Panel
or right click the E drive in "computer">properties>Tools

Did you check your drive for attribute errors and file errors?
