New computer with Visat 64 installed. Recently installed Office 07 and this morning discovered a problem I cannot figure out. With Explorer open, I click on File-Send-Link By Email, email does not open and I cannot exit out of Explorer. When you click on the "x" to close Explorer all the computer does is ding. What is going on, this is about to drive me nuts?

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Dell Tech Spt, they remotely accessed my system and this is what they said: That there was a conflict with the 64 bit and Outlook 07. With Outlook 07 open and Explorer open, the system will allow you to go to Explorer and File-Send-Link By Email, works fine in this case. If Outlook is closed though, Explorer will not open it. Dell said it appears to be a 64 bit conflict.

Has anyone heard of /experienced this? Was the Dell rep correct?

I also purchased another Dell (in addition to the one I mentioned at the thread start). It has Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1 installed. I also installed Office 07 to this unit from the same CD. Checked it last night it is doing the same thing my other computer is: With Explorer open, I click on File-Send-Link By Email, email does not open and I cannot exit out of Explorer. When you click on the "x" to close Explorer all the computer does is ding, won't close until you do it through Program Manager. With Outlook 07 open and Explorer open, the system will allow you to go to Explorer and File-Send-Link By Email, works fine in this case. If Outlook is closed though, Explorer will not open it.

So now same issue on both computers, only link I am aware of is the installation of Office 07 from the same CD to both these machines. What is going on?

In addition to what I already suggested you try, when you're getting that "ding" noise bring up the Task Manager (ctrl-shift-esc), go to the "processes" tab and look for Outlook.exe. If it's there, go to the "applications" tab and try to find Outlook there as well. If it's listed under applications, right-click and choose "bring to front", then "switch to...".

I suspect that Outlook is indeed running but for some reason you can't see its window. Has it perhaps sprung up on another monitor which is switched off?

If my theory is correct, the ding noise is caused by the Outlook window going "modal" as it's called - you can't close IE until the Outlook window which it invoked is closed first... except you can't see the Outlook window for some reason.

Another thing you can try is straight after you click "link by email", press alt-spacebar on the keyboard, and then X on the keyboard. That should maXimise whichever window has focus at the time, which will hopefully be Outlook for you.
