Hey everyone
I'm having trouble with my internet connection on my Sony Vaio laptop.
I've had this laptop for over a year now and I've been connected to the internet wirelessly through a router without any problems until last night...
All of a sudden IE wouldn't connect to any sites but firefox and my messenger still worked. Then about an hour later my firefox stopped working so i decided to restart my laptop. Before it shut down to restart I got a Blue Screen and then it restarted. Now it's saying im connected to the network but Local Only and I can't connect to any sites. I'm currently on another PC in the house and the Internet works fine. Also I tried plugging an ethernet cord in the laptop and it still doesn't work....
Please help... thanks.

Do you have Norton NIS installed? When did the problem start? What changed that could cause it.

I have norton installed but it is expired. About a day earlier I had installed Vuze to download a movie but the movie didn't work. I'm thinking it was a virus.

Hi nacc11,

It could be a firewall problem. Try disabling the NIS firewall and enabling the Vista one instead. Although I no longer use NIS, I used to when I was using XP and when Vista first came out. On a number of occasions, I had to go into the NIS firewall and manually allow the IE and WinMail executables access to the Internet.

However, since your copy of NIS has expired, I strongly recommend that you renew it for continued protection (if you choose to continue using it). Alternatively, uninstall it and try an alternative such as Avast. The choice is yours.

I turned Windows Firewall but still no luck...
Also everytime I restart the notebook I get a blue screen of death, could this mean I have a virus and could it be a virus that's preventing me from connecting to the internet?
