Folder Disappears in Windows Mail

    Folder Disappears in Windows Mail

    I have a folder where I store read e-mails that has suddenly disappeared. It is not in the trash and there is no record of it when looking in the file directory. How can a whole folder suddenly disapear? Any ideas on how to restore it?

    Hello Richard, and welcome to Vista Forums.

    You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before the folder went awol may be able to restore it for you.

    If not, then you can try the free porgram Recuva to see if you can restore it at the folder's inbox location in the hidden system folder C:\users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders.

    Thanks, Recuva found nothing. This is not an accidental deletion-the folder literally disappeared. In the morning it was there, and when the program was re-opened in the afternoon it was gone!

    Any other thoughts?

    Is this a IMAP or POP3 account?

    If it is a IMAP account, then you might open the "IMAP Folders" for the account and reset the list.

    Well, if it was just the messages, I would say click on View, Current View, and select (check) Show All Messages.

    If you have any security programs that have a email filter running, then you might check to see if it may have quarantined the folder.
