browser losses connection but other applications can still access the internet

Hi!

i got some issues with my network and internet connection. it works fine for awhile but once or twice a day i cant use any internet browser. the internet connection is fine i can use it to play mmo:s use web radio etc but it simply doesnt workwith any form of web browser. i have used opera explorer and firefox same issues with them all. it works fine again after a reboot.

it happens all the sudden, i can be out surfing and all the sudden i cant access a link and the browser cant find any connection. downloads, webradio works fine

any suggestions? (got vista x64)

Try uninstalling your antivirus. All those browsers use the same WinInet/Winsock API layers, so the fact that they all quit working at the same time suggests a problem in a filter driver - possibly the AV.

I was having similar issues, and finally resorted to a complete system restore to determine the cause, re-installing months of windows updates, one at a time. I finally narrowed it down to

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB954430)

I did hid that update, and have not had issue since. From what I understand, unfortunately, that update cannot be uninstalled once installed, so if it's worth it to you, you may need to do like I did, and perform a full system re-install.
