Chrome v2 problems

Hi,
I had been using Chrome 1 and IE 8 together for sometime. Both the browsers were working fine. When I got the update for Chrome 2, I installed it and since then I cannot connect to the Internet through Chrome 2. My IE is working fine. In Chrome, I always get the message

"Error 104 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED): The attempt to connect to the server failed"

I searched for a solution in the Chrome help page and nothing worked. I cleared the cache, allowed firewall for Chrome 2's full access... but still it is not working. Can any one of you please help me with a solution for this? I am tired of using IE8.

Error 104 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED): The attempt to connect to the server failed. - Google Chrome Help

Hi, Thanks for your post. But I have followed all those suggestions provided there, but of no use.

Can you or any of the Mods please help me?

Chrome and IE use the
same information to connect to the Internet.
Open IE and on the menu: Tools -> Internet Options
Hit the Connections tab, then hit the LAN Settings button and UNCHECK
"Use a proxy server for your LAN, if it is checked,
then ENABLE the "Automatically detect settings", give this a go and post back, it has worked for some people in your position

Hi Stoneys-nutz,
Thanks for your help mate. Can you guide me how to get Chrome V1? I don't find that in the Google Chrome site.
one more thing is that after I had updated to Chrome 2, none of the other browsers seem to work. Not even Fire Fox, Opera or Safari. I am bugged up...

hi malibalaji

Id advise against using google chrome as in the past its been labelled as spyware as it sends all the information about what you type into it to google. It has also been labelled as adware as it attempts to change the homepage for web browsers installed on the system and attempts to change the default search engine for web browsers installed on the system.

I tested it in XP inside Virtual PC and when i installed it, it added a folder into firefox that caused firefox to stop working. I had to uninstall chrome and then uninstall firefox before installing firefox again to make it work.

You should make sure there is no trace of chrome on your pc.

Hello mailbalaji,
If you still want to download Chrome after reading stew2's post (who is right by the way) then here is the link you need. Hope they patch it soon for you. Good luck.

Hi Stew2,
I followed the steps that you have suggested. I uninstalled Chrome 2 using a tool called FINAL UNINSTALLER so that I can be sure that the traces of Chrome is removed from my PC. Then I tried installing FF 3 and run it and still i am not able to connect either from FF or Safari... I can only run IE8 successfully.

Can you let me know how you completely removed the traces of Google Chrome, so that I can follow the same.

Google Chrome has spoiled by browsing freedom and convenience now...

hi malibalaji

Each PC is different is different but hears what i did:

  1. Uninstall all browsers (except internet explorer) eg chrome, firefox, safari etc
  2. Go to C:\Program Files and delete the browsers folders for the browsers you just uninstalled eg Mozilla Firefox etc
  3. Reboot PC
  4. Download from this link IE Privacy Keeper
  5. Install and run IE privacy keeper and under each tab tick as many as you want and then click on Clean Up Now
  6. Install firefox and run it and that should be enough for it to work.
If other browsers still dont work after doing the above then youll need to edit the registry. Just come back here and il tell you how to do it, but hopefully the above is enough.

Stew2,
Thanks for your suggestion mate. But Still, FF doesn't want to work on my machine. It cannot detect the internet [which IE 8 is happily using]... I think i have to stuck with this dumb IE8... sick of it.

P.S: Sorry for the late reply, as I was away on this weekend. Again, thanks mate

MMM ok uninstall all browsers and any software made by google and reboot. Then click the vista start orb and in the search bar type regedit and hit enter. Click on Edit then Find

In the search bar that appears type google and then click on Find Next. Delete the key that appears by right clicking on it and selecting Delete then press F3 on your keyboard to find the next instance of google and delete it and so on until there is no trace of google in the registry.

Once thats done reboot your pc and download and install firefox from this link: Mozilla Products | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client

The other suggestion is a system restore, which seems to have worked for everything but my desktop hyperlinks. You need to do that by using Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Set web browser.

I am thoughougly angry at Google. Three hours of this nonsense, merely because I wanted Google Earth. Can you spell "serious waste of time and effort"?
