'File not Found' error

Hello,
Can anyone shed some light on this?

For the last two days I have been having some difficulty connecting to websites while browsing on the web.
The status bar will say 'looking up' such and such a website and I will either get a 'server not found-try again' error from Firefox or the equivalent from IE8.
If I click on the try again button, the website loads successfully. Sometimes this takes 2 or 3 tries. Then at other times I have no trouble at all.

This is not specific to any one website, Windows mail throws out an 'imap server error' when first loading as well.
YouTube sometimes needs to be refreshed before it will play a video.
Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Firefox 3.5.1
IE 8
SP2 installed no problems a week ago and nothing changed on the computer except for a Defender update and a virus scan in the 48h hours before this started occurring.
Windows says there is no problem with my connection
My ASDL modem says no problem there either
Virus scan and Defender scan ok..
I unplugged my modem from the box for a while then plugged it back in.
It's more of a pain than anything else but it is annoying:rolleyes:
Me or my ISP?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts..
:D

Simple way to find out if it is your ISP or you, are there any other computers there that you can try, and do they work fine?

In your Internet Settings, are there any issues with your LAN settings or proxy settings?

Also, in your TCP/IP properties, are you automatically getting values or are they set?
