Hi guys i have been trying to fix this problem on my friends Acer Aspire 5507Z laptop i can not connect to the internet with anything but Yahoo messenger for some reason. I have scanned it with Malwarebytes. Its driving me nuts. btw the windows firewall is off thanks for your help

Have you tried opening up IE8, and if it doesn't work, run network diagnostics by clicking the option to have it checked. This should list some possible solutions. Also have a look at event viewer in the system and application logs for anything out of the ordinary, along with reliability monitor.

If you can connect to yahoo messenger then your internet should be fine. Can you browse to google?

i cannot browse or download anything i tried to set up avast and spybot and the install wont happen becoz i have to connect to the internet to dl the setup files

Sounds like a good time to use a USB flash memory. Maybe download those programs on the USB stick on a working computer and then transfer into your friend's computer.
