Internet Explorer security headache

Hi all, just joined :geek:

Got a wee prob with a customer's Vista Home Premium desktop pc that I've just repaired.

I gave him Firefox 3.5 and, as he's a disabled, elderly guy who's keen on crosswords, I tried to set him up with a link to this crossword site, where you can do the puzzles online or print them off:
Code:
http://thinks.com/daily_codebreaker.htm
But I couldn't get Firefox to allow interaction in the puzzles, even though Java is enabled in Firefox.

I'm guessing that this is because Internet Explorer is blocking content through its Java and ActiveX security settings.

Well, I battled with these settings for half an hour and got nowhere, so I gave up. My guy can print out the puzzles, but not do them online, which is a nuisance.

Can anyone give me some clues on this, please? I've been to various websites that purport to offer fixes for the problem, but nothing I did in IE options worked.

BTW, I think his IE is v.8, but it may be 7, if this makes any difference. I never use IE, so I'm not a guru

Thanks :-)

Thanks for your comments guys. I mentioned the IE\Firefox connection because I ran across this problem once before, and posted a similar query on the official Mozilla forum, which was where I got the info about IE (whether it's ever used or not) blocking Firefox. Also, recent searches I did while I was at the customer's house today said much the same thing.

As I said, his Firefox is 3.5. It has Java enabled in the config and I can't see anything else in the FF settings that might affect this issue.

Yes, maybe it's the Vista firewall that's doing the blocking, but I don't think so. Every time that I try, with either Firefox or IE, to use the ActiveX-dependent site content, I see the message bar, telling me that I'm trying to do bad stuff (can't remember the exact wording ) so I'm pretty sure that IE is the culprit.

Re my personal machines, I have no interaction issues with the site either, but I'm using XPPro and IE is v.6.
