Re-Installing wireless network

My laptop with Vista Home Premium had it's OS reinstalled a couple days ago. And as a result my Router (DLink 615) had to be reinstalled. Which went well, but when I tried to set up my desktop (XP) to the router it just does not seem to fly no matter what I do. Even trying to make it an Ad Hoc connection. Do I have to also install the router software on the desktop for either wireless or Ad Hoc. Also when I tried to install my Net Gear wireless G PCI adapter. This whole thing worked fine before I had to reinstall my OS on the laptop.
