Firefox start up in Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Whenever I start Firefox on my Vista home premium 64 bit system, I always get a window asking me what I would like my home page and search engine to be. I check yahoo for my home page and my search engine, check "don't ask me again" and save. However when I start firefox again, it goes to the firefox welcome page and the same box pops up again. Anybody know what's going on? This is a recent phenomenon, and happens no matter which search engine or home page I select.

Uninstall Firefox and download a new copy directly from Mozilla. It could be a corrupted file, a setting some program changed, or an addon causing the problem, but either way, it should work.

I uninstalled and re-installed firefox....no luck. So, I uninstalled, ran advanced care registry fix, and re-installed, no luck. I have some firefox icons that won't go away like in the all programs list, and the quick start menu. Oh, internet Explorer works just fine on the machine in question, I'm just not a fan. The other thing I have noticed, the other night I couldn't get to facebook or any other outside link from yahoo mail. on the machine in question. Here's the worst part, I work for the ISP in the location. They say the system is fine, but we have been getting a lot of calls with trojans and worms the last 2 weeks. the virus scans I have run have come up negative. I'm using AVAST free version. Malwarebytes didn't find anything either. I'm wondering if I have a corrupt windows file causing my OS to go screwy. i tried to restore as well, but no luck.

Try using a program like Revo Uninstaller to completely remove all traces of Firefox. Then try again. If you think it is a virus, try using Microsoft Security Essentials as a replacement for Avast. It is more lightweight and integrated with Windows. To illustrate the importance of an efficient anti-virus system, let me tell about an experience I had Thursday. My cousin gave me a laptop to speed up, and all I changed was the security program from AVG Free 8.5 to MSE. The restart time went from 1:01 to 0:46.

I'll try the microsoft security essentials, thanks. I do suspect a trojan or something. We'll see. I'll let you know what transpires. I went through and manually uninstalled firefox (it was the only thing that would work) I'll also try the revo uninstaller just in case there is anything left in the system.... does that work with that program? can I run it for something I think I have uninstalled just to make sure?

No, the only way to use Revo is if it is still installed. You can always reinstall just for the purposes of doing a thorough uninstall.

What version of FF are you running?
I set FF to start with my home page.
For home page I put "about:blank"

Seems to be less problems that way.
When it comes up just click a bookmark to go wherever.
btw I'm using FF 3.6 Beta 2.
The betas after that don't like my AddOns but this one works great!

Thanks so much for taking time to reply to my post. I will try your suggestion. I may try an older version of firefox if it doesn't work. I really appreciate your time!
