    Hello misssmith,
Here is how to do it.
Go to the top right of the screen and click on tools then internet optitions. The look down a little and you will see browsing history. Next, click settings. Then go to the bottom of the list and change the number in the "Days To Keep History" to 0. Click ok. Now click "delete..." and choose to delete everything.

I would also download and install Ccleaner. This program will delete everything to do with internet explorer and other things that would not be good if you are concerned about privacy.

    When you download:
    1. go to optitons
    2. click settings
    3. click "run ccleaner when computer starts and also "automatically check Ccleaner for updates"
    4. now click "advanced"
    5. make sure the only box with a check in it is "Hide warning messages"
    6. Now click "cleaner"
    7. make sure that all boxes ON BOTH TABS are check except "wipe empty space" on the bottom of the first tab. This option is use less.

This will help you stay somewhat protected. More protection is available such as firewalls, advanced antivirus applications, and buffer overflow protection applications are available but i dont think you need/want these.

Let us know how it goes,
    Ben

Here's how to do it in IE8:

To DELETE Browsing History: First go to IE, Tools, Internet Options. On first screen in the Browsing History section, check “Delete browsing history on exit.” Then click "Delete" and select "Delete everything." Then, back on the previous screen, click Settings. At the very bottom of the screen in the History section, at "…Number of days to keep history…" change the number to 0.

Then click View Files, which takes you to your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies. You can manually delete any of these files that you wish.

    Click OK.

Actually it was not the same. It was specific for IE8 and was more complete -- in regard to IE, you gave directions for one customization change, I gave directions for four customization changes.

I think any time you can give someone more information to help them, the better. Your complaint however, was a waste of a post, and wasn't very nice.

Re: how to turn off saving browsing history???

Hi there, this is Kate with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team. There are a few ways you can clear your tracks in Internet Explorer 8:
-Proactively with InPrivate Browsing - Internet Explorer 8 provides you with a choice over when your browsing habits are being recorded.
*Begin InPrivate Browsing by opening a new tab and selecting Browse with InPrivate from the menu on the page. You can also begin InPrivate browsing by opening a new page and selecting InPrivate Browsing from the Safety button on the Command bar. Once you complete this action, Internet Explorer 8 will launch a new browser session that won't record any information, leaving no evidence of searches or webpage visits. To end your InPrivate Browsing session, simply close the browser window.

-Reactively with Enhanced Delete Browsing History
*Now you can choose to preserve cookies and temporary Internet files for sites in your Favorites folder, thereby enabling those websites to remember user preferences and display faster while you browse. This added functionality helps you protect your information while ensuring the functionally and ease-of-use of your trusted favorite sites.
*To clear your tracks after you've browsed click Safety from the Command bar and select Delete Browsing History from the menu to open up a page of options. From here you can choose a number of options to keep your browsing private. Place check boxes next to the items you wish to remove and click Delete to cover your tracks.

Re: how to turn off saving browsing history???

All the replies have been a big help and I have done all steps mentioned but with that said...
When I click on the arrow in the address bar it shows web sites? The worst part is it shows one in particular that I do not want to show? (just my luck, right?)... and when I click the expand arrow it shows even more?

When I went to do the following step shown below the web site in question is not there but others are. I dont really care about those but they are still there.

What is it about this site that it will not disappear? I have since started "InPrivate" to browse but it still shows up when using "InPrivate" and when browsing in regular mode. (No, it isn't a porn site)(lol)

The only thing I have not tried is the downlaoding the Ccleaner program because I do not know where to find it.
