Ever since I downloaded IE8 64 bit into my computer (I have Vista Ultimate 64bit OS) I have had problems....the main one is that IE8 freezes all the time and shuts itself down and I keep getting the "Not Responding" at the top of the page....the only way I can get it to start working again is to go into the Task Manager and end task and start over again.....PLEASE someone help me....this is driving me crazy....any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Step one) Go to your Start Menu, type in "Device Manager" and check that your Network Adapters have no conflicts and are working right. If they aren't you'll see an exclamation point next to the component in Device Manager.

Step two) Uninstall IE 8.
Steps for Windows Vista or for Windows Server 2008

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Uninstall a Program under the Programs category
  4. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
  5. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 8.

Note If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700#ALTWin6alternative steps for Windows Vista or for Windows Server 2008.
  6. In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  7. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  8. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
After you have finished, go to the "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700#diditfix2Did the "Let me fix it myself" steps fix the problem?" section to verify that your earlier version of Internet Explorer is restored.

Step three) Update your Network Adapter drivers. Don't trust Device Manager's "Update Driver Software..." that you get when you right-click on each component. Go to the manufacturer's home page. For instance, I have an "Intel Wireless WiFi link 4965AGN." I click on the 'update drivers' thingie, it browses the Internet and whatnot, and then it comes back to me saying my drivers are up to date.

Wrong.

Intel just made an update to this device 16 days ago. So, don't trust the Device Manager. Go to the device page for each device and get drivers straight from the manufacturer. They test devices for the latest popular softwares so you'll know that, at least your problems won't come from drivers.

Step four) Reinstall IE8.

Step five) Buy a Mac in a pure visceral rage when the problem persists lol.

One thing that can really slow down IE8 or even make it crash, is if there are a lot of 'add-ons' running while you are trying to browse, managing your add-ons can really speed up browsing. To fix try this:
In IE, go to ‘tools’ and ‘manage add-ons’.
Disabling any unnecessary add-ons may help your Internet run faster.
Try disabling add-ons with more than a .2 sec load time. (i.e. tool bars)
If you’re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system.
Also, running 'compatibility mode' can dramatically speed up browsing. Some sites are not yet compliant with the new technology in IE8, so compatibility mode was included in IE8 to allow you to emulate IE7 to view the page. This link will show you how to do it:
Some Web sites may not be displayed correctly or work correctly in Windows Internet Explorer 8
Good luck, hope this helps!
