I imported my Bookmarks folders from Firefox into the Favorites in IE8. It worked just fine! Today, I was cleaning up all the entries in IE8's Favorites and deleting folders. I am doing this b/c I decided to try using IE8 as my default browser. One of the folders I had created won't delete! I click delete and I get this message: "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\Users\Barbara\Favorites. Verify the item's location and try again." Argh!!!!! I tried doing it thru the "organize favorites" and I got the same message!

A Google search gave me only one result which said to go to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Favorites. Well, can't find that folder in Vista!!! Did a Google search on that problem, too and found out that things are much different in Vista!

Can anyone help me get rid of the folder I no longer need in Favorites?? Please!

See if it works, if not

Try right clicking on the item and then properties and see if you can find the location
Try typing the name in search to find the location. You can try to delete manually.
Try refreshing.

richc46: I followed the link to the tutorial and find that uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling it w/b a lot easier. When I downloaded the Unlocker program, my Shaw Secure told me that it had spyware, scanned it and deleted the spyware. That right there was enuf for me to say no thanks to that little program, even tho Shaw removed the spyware.

I rt clked on the folder and went to that path and found the folder but when I tried to delete it manually, I got the same message. I had already searched for the folder before posting this problem and found it in the same spot as where the properties said it was.

Imperfect1: Yes, I knew that about error messages. I did shut down and reboot, thinking that it would be gone but it wasn't!

So, thankyou both for your help but I will just uninstall IE8 and reinstall it. Seems like a whole lot less work than going thru all of these suggestions. I am going to check out that Unlocker program and find out more about it b/c it sounds like it w/b a good one to have.

You deactivate IE 8, by typing (in search) turn windows features on and off. Then uncheck the IE 8 box. Luck

richc46: Thanks for the reply. Sorry it took so long to reply but I was away from home and wasn't using the puter. I tried to deactivate IE8 by going to Help and Support and finding the info about turning Windows features on or off. In the list that came up, I expanded everything but could not find IE8 anywhere. Go to search type: turn windows features.You will see turn windows features on and off, click on it. A screen will come up, look for IE8, it will be checked. Just uncheck it, turn off and boot the computer, thats it.

I went to "search" (the one below all programs on the start menu) and typed "turn windows features" but nothing came up except my own documents that have those words in them. Wouldn't what you are suggesting I do be the same as me going to "Programs and Features" and clicking on "Turn Windows features on or off"? We must be misunderstanding each other or something. There is NO Internet Explorer in the list that comes up in Turn Windows features on or off!!

Any ideas?

First there, of course was no disrespect intended with Barb, actually was just a typing shortcut, but will not happen again.

That being said, yes the CP approach will bring you to the same place. I use the search method, myself, because search is the source of almost any action that I want to take.

Can you take a screen shot of what you see when you bring up, turn on and off. I did it just now and clearly see, explorer. I checked your profile to make sure that you were not in Europe, where the people get a choice of browsers. In the USA, Vista comes with IE.

So please send me a screen shot. You can type snipping tool in search and that will take a pic for you.
