Running Vista Ultimate x64 with IE8. Otherwise, the machine is updated and running perfectly.

The browser is open to an email.

Message: "The webpage could not be saved" in Web Archive and Webpage Complete.

It can be saved when HTML Only is selected, but when the file is opened it only results in opening the browser to whatever state it is currently in.

It can also be saved as Text File but when that is opened, the file only reads: "Windows live hotmail".

Microsoft Hotmail can be accessed through Windows Mail. Windows Mail comes with your system; it's one of the Microsoft Works programs you can access through your Start Menu. It's easy to use, too, and can save email messages as "outboard" messages to a disk or USB drive or wherever else strikes your fancy. You'll be able to open and read and save messages as you like without having going through the browser.

Open Windows Mail.
Type your name as you want it to appear on outgoing messages.
Type in your full internet hotmail address, with the @hotmail.com suffix or whatever it is.
It's a pop3 server so don't change this.
Your incoming mail server is pop3.live.com
Your outgoing server is smtp.live.com
If you're the only user of your Vista account then feel free to type in your login and password and hit the "remember password" checkbox. If you're not then don't hit the checkbox.
You do not want to "log on using secure password authentication."

Also, Windows Live Mail is another Microsoft program you can download that kind of automatically sets up your stuff for you. I kind of like the Windows Mail interface, but Live Mail is nice, too. Live Mail is the newer program of the two, too, so I suggest you go that route It's supposed to be the replacement for Outlook Express. I only recommend Windows Mail because it's already installed with Vista so it won't take up more disk space.

Thank you for the input. This is what happened:

Send/Receive did not work initially with failures and error codes. These settings must be made for it to work:

Ports: incoming POP3--995

outgoing SMPT--587

Check "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)

Check "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

I learned all this by setting up the account in Outlook which is part of Office 2007. That program gives you the choice of whether to configure the settings yourself or do it automatically. I let it go automatic and then checked the settings. The default incoming port in Windows mail was 25 and all the checkboxes are empty by default.

Now I have three places where my Live Hotmail account can be accessed: Live Hotmail in IE8, Outlook 2007, and Windows Mail. I do not know if there are any conflicts at this time.

Perhaps it's time to wean off the browser ang get used to the superiority of Outlook or Windows Mail....

Thanks again.
