Can't view 'inline' attachment to email.

Hi. A friend of mine often sends me emails with 'inline' attachments, usually gif or html. There are a number of them that I've been unable to see despite opening the email via Internet Explorer, Firefox and Windows Mail. By right clicking the attachment and selecting Properties, I have noticed that the working attachments all have a standard address – http. However, the attachments which don't work all have an address beginning 'cid' and the Protocol and File Type are both shown as 'unknown'.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is here e.g. is my friend perhaps choosing a corrupted file to attach to his emails? If not, how do I view the attachments?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your friend is sending you inline attachments that are not standard, however, if they are standard file and you are using Windows Mail, make sure the following option is correct.

1. In Windows Mail, click "tools"
2. Click "options"
3. Click "security"
4. Make sure under "download images" that the "block images" box is unticked.

That should solve your problem.

Thanks for that, rhlhamlet. However, the problem persisted BEFORE I activated Windows Mail (I'm not a fan of email clients). I read somewhere that 'cid' was designed for Outlook Express which is why I gave Windows Mail a go. This isn't my problem, it's an elderly lady across town, I just posted in the first person. I'm 99% sure I left her Windows Mail with nothing blocked but will check next time I see her.
