Can't send email from certain locations

Hi All,

I'm having an issue sending email from certain locations. Some locations work just fine. Below is the error message i get...

The connection to the server has failed. Subject '', Account: 'mail.glamorous-glass.com', Server: 'mail.glamorous-glass.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I would like to help if I can, but I do not fully understand your question. All of your email is sent from Windows (Live) Mail and your email provider. What do you mean cannot be sent from all locations? Give me an example of 3 locations.

Hi, this error message means that a firewall is blocking port 25 which is the SMTP or outgoing mail port.

This means that you will be unable to send messages without reconfiguring the firewall.

From the sound of it, the router is what's blocking the port and not the PC.

The only easy way to get round this problem is to ask whoever controls the router(s) to open port 25 for you.

If you are using Microsoft Exchange Microsoft does have a workaround to sort his problem out without reconfiguring the routers' firewalls at Exchange Server client receives an error message when it tries to send or receive e-mail: "Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e"

I use windows mail, not windows live mail; i think there's a difference. I forward my mail from mail.glamorous-glass.com to windows mail. By different locations, i mean different physical locations, meaning they're about 200 km apart. The ISP is the same. At one location, i am able to send and receive mail, while at the other location i am only able to receive mail; when i try to send, i get the error message i previously noted.

Since it is different locations, this is why Osholt suspects the Router. What router model are you using in the problematic location?

OK, it is not the computer. The variable is the location and the routers. As was mentioned, the port has to be open. Usually 25.

Go to your Wind Mail: Tool>accounts>advanced. Make sure that 25 is the port used by your provider. It is 99% likely that it is.

We only neeed the 25, that is outgoing. When you go to the other locations, you have to make sure 25 is not blocked. That is all I can do.

You have to talk to who ever is in charge of managing the Wireless router in question and ask them to change it for you. The only other thing I can think of is if your email has an option to use webmail. This would let you wright your message in your web browser send the message to the webmail server via port 80 (the http port, which won't be blocked) and then the server sends the message to wherever it needs to go.

I think that webmail is the best option, too. Sorry that we could not do more.

If you can get us the model number of your router, we can try and find a tutorial on the web on how to do this. If you at least tell us who makes the router, (such as Belkin) we may be able to link to very good instructions.
