Trouble getting new email address (hotmail.com) recognized as default email. Tried all methods posted on forums: tools option and control panel. Control panel default settings will not allow option to disable Windows Mail. (grayed out). RegisterHotmail software says only Vista but I am using Vista.

Also cannot open old email program (Windows Mail) : getting error message MSOE.DLL 0x8007002: Checked and followed all advice on forums. Have also stopped virus software from scanning emails.

I know you said you tried everything, but just in case you missed something, have you tried these two methods:

1. Internet Options, Programs, Internet Programs, Set Programs.
Choose the programs that Windows uses by default.
Select Windows Live Mail (which is essentially the same as Hotmail, and will take you to Hotmail. )

2. Also under Set Program, select Access and Computer Defaults, select MS Windows emails, and then Windows Live Mail.

Imperfect1- thanx ...I tried those 2 methods before going to forum. Windows Live Mail does not show up on the list so I can't select it as default. Also under Select Access and Computer Defaults MY Current Email is dotted as default but Hotmail does not work as default. When I try to dis-able Windows Mail as default the option is grayed out.

I was told by a Microsoft tech in chat session that to use mailto option I have to right click and select Hotmail as mailto protocol. That's a "way around" the glitch.

Still don't understand why I can't make it the default.

Richc46 Installed software. Windows Mail does not show up on the list of programs. When I go to Uninstall Programs on Control Panel- Windows Mail does not show up on the list of programs. Yet the location of the file is C:\Proram Files\Windows Mail. Windows Live Hotmail does not show up at same location. When I right click on Windows Mail on Start menu I have the option of using Revo to install it. Clicking on it has no effect. When I right click on Window Live Hotmail there is no option for Revo.

Thanks,
P

If you go to control panel, programs and features, do you see windows live essentials. If so Windows mail is a component of that program
