Cannot send emails...

Hello...

I am having a problem sending email from one of my PCs. It can receive emails just fine but will not connect to the SMTP host. I tried to telnet as well and it would not work. I disabled the firewall just to be sure. The ISP is not blocking port 25, the other machines in the network here have no problems at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Welcome to the Forum Mark,

I have answered posts like this before and the answer is always the same. The required information is not filled out properly. There are more entries than just port; address, server, send secure etc. Check them all over, very slowly and compare to one that works. I think that you will find the error. If not report back and with the both of us, we should be able to ascertain the reason.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the welcome... it's appreciated. I also appreciate the response to my message. I have checked all of the settings and they are the same as all the others. I've been configuring email clients to use this particular host for many years and I know I have the information correct.

I installed and ran Thunderbird to test it thinking that maybe it's something to do with OE... but I end up with the same results. The attempt to connect times out.

I've gone through the installed software on the system trying to find what could possibly block the communications and have come up empty. Maybe I need to go one by one through services now to see what's there. Really scratching my head on this one.

I appreciate any input you may have.

Thank you...

Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes seems to be a difficult situation. Your opening posts mentions other PC's. They are on the same network?. If on a network or not all other variables are constant; ISP, email provider etc?

Hi Richard,

Yes, all the PCs are on the same small network of only 5 machines. The ISP and mail host are the same for all. The software loaded on this system has been loaded on the others... as a matter of fact, this machine has less loaded on it than the others.

When the problem was brought to my attention, I loaded AVG and Ad-Aware because there was no protection on it. I ran them to check to see if they could find anything and they both came up empty.. and I have since uninstalled them. Once the issue is resolved I will load them back on. From what I've read there are some issues with AVG blocking outbound mail if configured improperly so I removed it (and Ad-Aware).

So, at this point, like I mentioned before, I guess I will have to start going through all the loaded services to see what may be causing it. I've ruled out as much of the obvious as possible. Really pulling the hair out on this one....

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

You mentioned that everything is the same on all computers. My suggestions, now are just trying to help, using my best judgement and not questioning yours.

Are you really sure all the set up information is the same; port numbers, boxes checked, etc?

If you are really certain. Lets try a clean booth and see what happens.

Hey Richard,

I have checked all the settings and everything is set properly... I'll give the clean boot a try. From what I read, it sounds like an easier way to check out the services than going one by one through the list.

Thanks for the input, it's greatly appreciated... I'll let you know how I make out with it.

Thanks again...

Mark
