Chrome stopped working. Help please ?

After using IE for a couple of years, Chrome was fabulous, fast, reliable.
But now, Chrome starts, but won't log on to any site, even to my homepage (Googlemail).
I have tried repeatedly, but it always says:

"This webpage is not available.
The webpage at https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."

When I click "More information on this error", I get:

"Error 10 (net::ERR_ACCESS_DENIED): Unknown error."

Internet Explorer is still working and logs in normally, so I know my router is OK.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas please.

Thanks,
Frank.

Hello bannerman100,
You are not alone with this problem, loads of people are getting the same error message.
Most seem to have fixed it by removing their AV program and installing MSE, i think Norton was the main culprit.
Give it a try, but don't forget to re-install an AV when finished.

Hope this is of some use to you, good luck and post your results.

Hi stoneys,

Thanks for the message.

I have McAfee SecurityCenter, and yesterday I used Microsoft's "Windows Live OneCare Safety Scan", which took several hours to run and reported that it had dealt with several problems.

Chrome still didn't work, same error message.

I uninstalled Chrome and downloaded it again, but it still won't work, same error message.

So now I've gone over to Firefox, which so far seems to run OK.

I have become so utterly fed up with MS Vista, with IE8 repeatedly crashing, I am seriously thinking of going all the way, over to Linux.

I can't help wondering if Microsoft deliberately sends us updates that sabotage programs from other sources.

Does this make me a conspiracy theorist ?

Thanks and all the best,
Frank.

I have just gone over to FireFox myself. Cant see myself using IE again.
Its still annoying that Chrome won't work though.

Any hoo, at least you now have something you like.
