Windows mail and new email service not talking to each other

My cable tv providor has decided to go with a modified version of gmail for their email.

I am rather good at following directions, but the software gives me the error that connection is refused.

Here is the help page telling me how to configure Windows mail to pop3 my email from the changed service: Windows Mail - Gmail Help

If I have the authentication selected shown on the page above, the username and password field pop up, I type in the info, click okay, and it pops up again. Never accepts the info. I made sure the password for the account is correct.

If I don't have the two authentication items selected, I get this error.

Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

How do I fix this ?

Thank you.

Okay. The gmail help files are broken. The help files there told me to change the ending from .net to .com on the email address.

That was wrong. It should stay .net

It finally works. The fine print on the cable teevee site said to leave it .net but on the same page, it states to follow exactly the help file at gmail, which says to change it to .com

Arrrggghh !
