Can't delete deleted items

Hi
I am having problems with deleting emails from my deleted items list. If I click on 'Empty deleted items' it doesn't do anything and when I try and delete the messages individually it says 'an unknown error has occurred'. Please can you help me.

I dont know if I can help, but who ever tries we need
The name of the emial client used: eg Windows Live Mail
Do you use POP3 or IMAP?
Are your settings set to save mail on server after downloaded?
