Hotmail will not send or save new mail.

Help!

When running Hotmail via Windows Explorer I am unable to send or save new mail.
I can recieve new mail and I can write replies but thats as far as it will let me go.

I have spent the last 4 hours looking for a fix on t'internet but with no success.
There was a suggestion that using a different explorer might help, hence I have downloaded the latest Mozilla Firefox.

When running Hotmail via Mozilla I can now save to drafts but it will still not send new mail or replies.

In both cases the toolbar that sits directly under the 'Subject Field' box that normally contains the Attachemnt and Photo options has disappeared.

When using Windows Explorer there is the yellow triangle of doom in the bottom right corner telling me that there are errors on the page;

UNSPECIFIED ERROR
c2a.ie.js line 1
Code;0 Char;9746

I have run a full virus sweep and found no issues, my protection status and settings have not been changed and my hotmail account will run fine on any other computer including my iPhone.
I have created a new hotmail account which displays the same error message on my computer.

What is going on?

Many Thanks
James.

Hi Jimbobulator,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

If you're getting these problems through browser access, then there may be some type of setup, configuration, or other problem with your account or something basic missing in Vista (see the comment about Java below). I recommend you post to the following forum for assistance (and you can browse it to see if your questions have already been asked and answered as well): Sending and Receiving Mail Threads. If the problem exists with both Mozilla and Explorer, then it probably isn't the browser - but it may be with something related to the browsers (like an add-on).

Since it seems to work on other computers, you might try a System Restore on the computer that isn't working to see if that resolves the problem. Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.

You could also try downloading and installing the most recent version of Java (since the error message seems to be java-related and updating may resolve the problem). http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. Make sure you download the correct version for your version of Vista. There are also installation instructions next to the download link if you care to review them before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply Lorien, I've already tried a system restore to a point where I know my Hotmail to be working... I should have mentioned this!

I hadn't considered Java as the issue, I shall try your suggestion and check I have the correct latest version.

Cheers

What didn't it like? What error message did you get EXACTLY word-for-word? If it won't update Java, then that may be even more reason to suspect it as being involved in the cause.

Thanks!
