Solved How do I erase my browsing history in Vista?

Hi all.

I'm brand new here.

I know that my question has been asked before. But so far, I haven't seen any answers that actually work.

How do I erase my browsing history? I have a Windows Vista (64-bit) operating system.

Clicking on Safety/Delete Browsing History etc. does nothing. I've also downloaded and used Tracks Eraser Pro 8.3, and All Tracks Gone Window Washer, from the CNET website.

They didn't work either.

What can I do?

Download and use ccleaner. You can chose what you want to delete. It is great.

You can type browsing history in help and support to get the official way to clean the history. It is less effective, however.

Re: How do I erase my browsing history?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your advice, about how to erase my browsing history.

But, I downloaded and ran CC Cleaner, which DIDN'T delete my browsing history.

What else can I try (anyone)?

I think my lack of success, so far, may have something to do with my Vista 64-bit operating system.

I have Ccleaner and Windows 7 64 bit. It works for me
Click on cleaner
Then under IE history.
It should work try again.

Hi Richard: re: How do I erase my browsing history in Vista?

Hi Richard (again),

I tried again, with CCleaner. No luck.

BUT, I should explain a bit more.

The kind of browsing history I am trying to erase is what some people on this site call the 'breadcrumb history', which shows which websites you've visited, in the past.

If I type in the first few letters of a website I want to go to, the IE browser window also shows me all of the (other) websites that start with those letters etc., in a 'history' list. This is what I want to erase.

In other words, CCleaner etc. may erase (or hide) from the browser's history websites I've visited minutes, or hours ago. But as soon as I type into the browser any letters that begin the address of any website I've visited ... any time, the browsing history shows it.

Any ideas how I can erase this? I really appreciate your help.

Until I or someone else has a better idea, you can right click on the results you want to delete and then delete

THE SOLUTION: How to erase my browsing history in Vista?

Hi Richard (and everyone),

I found the SOLUTION to how to (really) erase my browsing history - please see my earlier post - after much struggling to do so.

This ANSWER - courtesy of sgstandre, at Microsoft Answers - WORKS! And I know that many people are searching for it. So, I'm just passing it on.

Here it is: Go to Control Panel Home (not the Classic View) >System & Maintenance>Indexing Options.

Then, click on Advanced, and then on Rebuild. Once it has finished reindexing the entries in Windows Search Indexing (where Internet Explorer History is automatically indexed), you reopen IE8, and all the maddening History entries in the address bar are ... GONE!

Thank you to everyone who tried to help me with this. This is my very first day as a member of Windows Vista Forums, and to find my answer and to be able to pass it along to others feels very good.

Peace.

J

Re: Feeling great!

Thanks again Richard.

Welcome to Vista forums Agent, i am glad you enjoyed your first day :D

Another trick is on your home page say Google for example in the top R.H. corner select search settings then select "Do not provide query predictions in the search box".

But you have to keep your home page cookie otherwise it will reset to default. You can manage which cookies to keep with the CCleaner program Rich put you onto
