Welcome Allan,

If a person closes an email account most emails have a waiting period before that address can be used again.
Not being able to actually talk to the sender I can only guess at possible scenarios
It is possible that the sender never closed the account and the yes they could send you mail
If the account were actually closed no one can send mail from that account. A sender, if theyknow how, can send an email to you and make it appear that it came from the address in question.
If the account is still open, yes a third party could use the account if the address and password were known. This is a possiblity if the computer were indeed hacked.

I think the best course of action would be to speak to the sender. If it is confired that they did not send you mail the account should be closed. If mail is still received the email provider should be notified (probably by email). All contacts in the senders address book should, also, be alerted to the potential problem, if one is found to exist.

I hope that I have, at least a little.

Goood Luck

You are very welcome.

Contacting the sender will be beneficial for 2 reasons:
You will get the information that you need and
you will alert the sender to a potential problem with his account.

Good Luck

Hi Again Allan,
First thanks for the rep, it was very nice of you.

Two things to try.
Go to search and type in the name of the email client, then right click and previous version. If there is a date that coincides with the date the email was present, give it a try. But remember, if it works all current mail will be gone, too

You can try this, but use the computer as little as possible until you try. Each use makes it more difficult to recover
Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

It may still be on the email server, at the email website.
